Myron Cordes

Myron John Cordes was born on January 31, 1938 at home with his twin brother, Merlyn in Leaf Lake Township, rural Henning, Minnesota.  His parents were the late Herman and Anna (Neels) Cordes.  Both Myron and Merlyn survived the polio epidemic of 1949.   They attended Country School at District #117 in Otter Tail County and then St. John’s Parochial School in Ottertail.  They graduated from the Henning High School with the class of 1956.  Myron attended NDSU for a short while, then moved moved back to the family farm in 1958.   He then received his associates degree from the University of Minnesota, Crookston.  He served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963, receiving an honorable discharge. 

Myron farmed with his family members and then was employed in Canada designing and building feed mills.  Myron was united in marriage with Marlys Wilmer on June 27, 1965 at the United Lutheran Church in Henning, Minnesota.  Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Steve and David.

Myron loved his family, farming and fishing. Caring for the outdoors was one of Myron’s favorite habits.  He established a brush cutting business where he would help fellow hunters with their deer trails.

Marlys passed away on March 13, 1992.Since 2012 Myron has made his home in Fargo, North Dakota with his companion, Shirley Harley.

 On December 3, 2020 Myron passed away at Essentia Health in Fargo, North Dakota at 82 years of age.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.  Preceding Myron in death were his parents, Herman and Anna Cordes; wife, Marlys Cordes; siblings: Lowell, Virgil (Royce), LuAnn, Merlyn and Derald; brother-in-law, John Hansen.

Myron is survived by his companion, Shirley Harley of Fargo, North Dakota; sons: Dave (Megan) Cordes of Peosta, Iowa and Steve (Lisa) Cordes of Henning; 10 grandchildren; 2 sisters: Vivian Palm of Henning and Caryl Hansen of Eden Prairie; sisters-in-law, Colleen Cordes of Henning and Doris Cordes of Perham; many other relatives and a host of friends.
