Kenneth "Bud" Welter Obituary

Kenneth Eugene “Bud” Welter was born on October 10, 1930 in Homestead Township, Otter Tail County. His parents were the late Raymond Patrick and Elsie Louise (Brasel) Welter. Bud was confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in New York Mills. He attended country school until the 8th grade and received an Honorary Diploma from the New York Mills High School in 2013. Bud honorably served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 in Korea.

On April 21, 1956 Bud was united in marriage to Dorothy Marion Korby at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with five children. They made their home in rural New York Mills. Bud was employed at the Mills Locker Plant and then at Dynamic Homes from 1972 to 1984. He enjoyed carpentry and worked with Ron Bernu Carpentry and then 13 years with his son, Dan at Modern Assemblies from 1993 to 2006 when he retired at 76 years of age. 

Bud was a Life Member of the Charles D. Center V.F.W. Post #3289 of New York Mills and was an active member of the Color Guard, where he proudly carried the United States Flag. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, crafting, watching the Twins, listening to Wheeler Dealer, puzzles, pitching for the Flying Finns Softball team and taking saunas. 

On December 5, 2021 Bud passed away at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena, MN at 91 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding Bud in death were his parents, Ray and Elsie; brothers: Gregg and Daryl “Pete”; sister, Betty Swenson.

Bud is survived by his wife, Dorothy of New York Mills; children: Dean (Debra) Welter of Motley; Jona (Douglas) Hamilton of Grahamsville, NY; Daniel (Bonnie) Welter of New York Mills; Darin “Doob” (Julie) Welter of New York Mills and Peggy (Jim Day) Welter of Maple, WI; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters: Margaret Meyer of Perham; Alvina Mathiason of Grand Rapids; many other relatives and a host of friends.
