Joanne Brockopp, 91, of Valley City, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2026, at St. Raphael’s Care Center in Valley City.
Joanne Lueders was born on November 24, 1934, at Wesley Hospital in Wadena, Minnesota; the daughter of William and Rosella Cordes Lueders. She was raised in Henning, Minnesota alongside her three sisters, Rosalynn, Marlys, and Carolee. Joanne was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Henning, Minnesota, and graduated with the Henning High School Class of 1952.
Following high school, Joanne continued her education at Concordia College in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she met her future husband, David Brockopp. She went on to become a Lutheran school teacher, teaching at Immanuel Lutheran School in Hankinson, North Dakota and Immanuel Lutheran School in Springfield, Illinois.
On August 24, 1956, Joanne was united in marriage to Reverend David Walter Brockopp in Henning, Minnesota. Together they shared 46 years of marriage and were blessed with four children: Steven, John, Donna, and Scott. Their life together was centered in faith, family, and service to the Lord.
As David followed his call into the ministry, Joanne faithfully walked beside him through each chapter of their life together. They made their home in many communities throughout the years, including Land O’ Lakes and Ladysmith, Wisconsin; Dryden, Ontario; Twin Valley, Minnesota; and rural Plummer, Minnesota. Joanne served alongside David with quiet devotion, offering support, hospitality, and care wherever they were called. After her husband’s death Joanne lived in Baxter, Minnesota for 20 years, before joining her son Scott and his family in their home in Valley City, ND. In January of this year she moved to St. Raphael care center in Valley City, ND, where she lived until her passing.
Joanne’s Lutheran faith was the foundation of her life. She found purpose in teaching, serving, and caring for others. Whether in the classroom, in the church, or in her home, Joanne shared her faith through patience, kindness, and a steady love for those around her.
Joanne loved her family deeply and treasured the time they spent together. She enjoyed the outdoors, time at the cabin, gardening, and the simple blessings of home and family. Her life was marked by faithfulness, humility, and devotion to those she loved.
David passed away on July 30, 2003. Joanne continued to carry their shared faith and memories with grace, remaining a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Joanne is survived by her children: Steven Brockopp of Enderlin, North Dakota; John Brockopp of Saint Paul, Minnesota; Donna Brockopp of Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada; and Scott (Nichole) Brockopp of Valley City, North Dakota; her grandchildren: Danae (Keith), Aiishe , Seth (Brooklyn), Derik, Cole, Amber, twins Rece and Riley, and Cody; and great-grandchild: Addison; her sister: Carolee; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Rosella Lueders; her husband, Reverend David Brockopp; and her sisters Rosalynn and Marlys.
Blessed be the memory of Joanne Brockopp.
