Ila Travis Obituary

Ila Mae Travis was born August 16, 1928 to Martin J. and Irene K. (Janda) Baumgard in Alba township, Jackson county, Minnesota. Ila was baptized in the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Ila lived in Kimbrae, Brewster and Fulda area. She attended country school in Kimbrae and Brewster area before attending and graduating from Fulda High School with the class of 1945. After graduating she worked for the at the CIT Office in Worthington, Minnesota before her marriage with Forrest Travis.

Ila and Forrest were united in marriage on January 15, 1950 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster and their marriage was blessed with two children, Maurice, and Mark. For two years, Ila and Travis separated in Burbank, California, where Ila worked in Cost Accounting for Menasco Aircraft. Her career after that was as a housewife and bookkeeper for her husband. In 1986, the two were reunited in Magnolia, Minnesota, where they lived before moving to Battle Lake and spent the summers on Deer Lake and the Winters in Florida and Arizona.

Ila was a member of the United Methodist Women and Church, the Rock Over Country Extension Club, and the ladies Auxiliary V.F.W. #2757 in Lodies, Minnesota. She had many hobbies, including bowling in her younger years, oil and china painting, gardening, crocheting, traveling, and fishing.

On August 14, 2020, Ila passed away in the Stanford Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota. Preceding Ila in death are her parents: Martin and Irene Baumgard; along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is loved and remembered by her loving husband: Forrest; her children: Maurice (Nancy) Travis of Fargo, North Dakota; Mark (Linda) Travis of Eden Prairie; her step grandchildren: Amy O’Brien; Kelly (Keven) Huang; Travis Peterson; and Kristi (Chad) Schmultz; and her great-grandchildren: Tristyn, Jack, Rafe, Iris, Nyah, and Joshua; brother: Wayne (Dee) Baumgard of Glendale, Arizona; her nieces and nephews: Mike Baumgard of Florida; Debbie (Brian) Gyeen of Indiana; and Brenda (Brett) Haarmann of Connecticut; many other relatives and a host of friends.
