Gordon Halvorson Obituary

Gordon Marvin Halvorson was born on October 8, 1927 along with his twin sister Marjorie in Grand Forks, North Dakota. His parents were the late Rudolph and Martha (Skogsal) Halvorson.

When Gordon was seven years old the Halvorson family moved to Ottertail, Minnesota. He attended Country School #131 near Ottertail. Gordon grew up on the family farm in Ottertail Township and lived there until he moved to Good Samaritan in Battle Lake in March of 2011.

Gord served in the United States Naval Reserve as an apprentice seaman. Then enlisted in the United States Army. After the service he had many different jobs. He like to see how things worked and would take things apart to try and improve them. Gord also had a love of cars- which passed on to many of his nephews.

Health issues plagued Gord all his life and made it necessary for him to move to Good Samaritan in 2011 after heart surgery. It was a good move for Gord. The love and attention of the staff were exactly what he needed. They were always ready and willing to visit with him and listen to what he had to say, which was so important to Gord. Gord’s family will always be grateful and so thankful for the loving care he received from the people at Good Samaritan.

On December 2, 2020 Gordon passed away at his home in Good Samaritan in Battle Lake, Minnesota at 93 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and caregivers. Preceding Gordon in death were his parents: Rudolph and Martha; twin sister: Marjorie; brother: Boyd; sister: Delores and her husband John Scott; and brother-in-law: Fred Swanberg.

Gordon is survived by his sister: Norma Swanberg; sister-in-law: Betty Halvorson; nephews and nieces: Randy Halvorson; Myron (Lisa) Halvorson; Karen (Keith) Cherne; Bonnie (Walter) Gondrez; Kirk (Dodie) Scott; Lyn (Jim) Speckeen; Greg (Beth) Swanberg; Mike Swanberg; Steve (Rachel) Swanberg; Laurie (Barry) Shaw; and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews and friends.
