Fred Stroot

Fred Eugene Stroot, 57, of New York Mills, Mn passed away on July 30, 2021 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo ND surrounded by his family.

Fred was born in Wadena, MN, on Oct. 22, 1963, to Leo and Helen (Geiser) Stroot. He lived in Wadena where he went to school through the 6th grade. He then transferred to New York Mills where he graduated from New York Mills High School in 1982 where he was Class President and Homecoming King. Fred’s family had moved to Rush Lake where he spent countless hours doing what he loved most – fishing and hunting.

Fred served in the United States Navy from July 1983 to July 1990 where he was deployed to the Mediterranean. He was then employed by Lund Boats in New York Mills for 20+ years.

Fred met and married the love of his life: Diane Schwartz in 1997. They raised their three children in New York Mills.

Fred is survived by his wife of 24 years: Diane (Schwartz); sons: Malcolm and Samuel; and daughter: Anna; siblings: Carol Husby; Jim (Pat) Stroot; Mary (Dave) Keppers; Bill (Aggie) Stroot; Ellen (Ron) Cherne; Judy (Doug) Harthun; and Adele (Mark) Lausten: aunts: Mary (Gene) Stroot; and Ilene (Jack) Reagan; Lifelong friend: Bruce Veden; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and great friends.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents: Leo and Helen Stroot; sister: Karen; brother-in-law: Norbert Husby; and God Son: Jacob Stroot.
