Ervin Schlichting

Ervin Schlichting passed away on December 3, 2020 at 88 years old.

Ervin Arthur Schlichting was born on November 15, 1932 on the farm in Germania Township, Bertha, Minnesota to Arthur and Lydia (Decker) Schlichting. Sadly, Lydia passed away that same day. Ervin’s father and grandparents cared for Ervin for several years. Later, Arthur married Dora Holmquist. Together they raised Ervin.

Ervin stayed on the farm until he joined the Army for 2 years. He was stationed in Korea for 18 months working as a pipeline engineer.

When Ervin returned home, he married Nelda McIntire, the love of his life. Ervin took care of the farm and Nelda worked at the bank in Bertha, and for several creameries as well. They have two children: Neil and Eve.

In 1995, Ervin went to Tech School in Staples for two years, learning Tool and Die. He enjoyed that and had a small shop on the farm.

Ervin was active in several organizations beginning with the Church Council of Faith United Church of Christ. Also, as Board Member and Chairman of Todd County American Dairy Association, Chairman of Todd County Farm Bureau, and Clerk of Germania Township Board.

Ervin is survived by his wife: Nelda; children: Neil (Tammy) Schlichting of Eagle Bend, Minnesota; and Eve (Craig) Folkestad of Wadena, Minnesota; grandchildren: Corynn (Kermit) Cooper; Dylan (Misty) Folkestad; Alexis (Scott) Karl; Brady (Kayla) Folkestad; Jordan (Beth) Folkestad; Macy Folkestad; Cooper Folkestad; Cameron Folkestad; Dustin (Becky) Schlichting; and Megan (James) Williamson. Ervin was preceded in death by his parents.
