Dorothy Hamann Obituary

Dorothy Marie (Draeger) Hamann was born on June 2, 1937, to Paul and Myrtle (Buchholz) Draeger in Wahpeton, North Dakota. She went to a country school, that was a mile and a half from their home, through the eighth grade.  As it was common back then, she took various jobs working for neighbors cleaning and doing yard work.

It was there that she met the love of her life Herman Hamann, while he was doing field work for the same neighbor she was cleaning for. That neighbor got them together and they were married on June 15, 1957.

Herman enlisted in the United States Army.  Dorothy stayed with her parents until he was stationed in Tacoma, Washington. They were blessed with their first daughter, Elaine, who was born in September of 1958.

After Herman finished his military service, they moved to Deer Creek, Minnesota. Dorothy and Herman were blessed with two more daughters, Shirley, born in 1962 and Donna, in 1965.

They then moved to their farm in 1968 in rural Compton Township, Wadena Minnesota. They were blessed again, this time with a son, Erwin, in 1969.

Dorothy and Herman celebrated 54 beautiful years together, with Herman's passing in April of 2011. Dorothy was a homemaker and a mom. She loved cooking, embroidering, putting puzzles together and doing ring-a-word puzzles. She also loved doing housework, gardening, mowing the lawn and raking leaves.

Dorothy wasn't really interested in television very much, but if Wheel of Fortune was on she was glued to it! She also loved to watch the Twins and the Vikings!

Dorothy was blessed with 10 grandchildren (nine grandsons and one granddaughter) and also 19 great-grandchildren. She loved all of them so much and was so proud of them.

Dorothy lived at her farm home until moving in with her son in 2022. Dorothy passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on November 16, 2023, at Astera Health in Wadena, Minnesota. She will be greatly missed by her entire family.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Elaine (Bob) Eisenlohr of New York Mills, Shirley (Randy) Grondahl, Donna (Duane) Uselman, and Erwin (Kerry Hyland) Hamann, all of Wadena, her 10 grandchildren and her 19 great-grandchildren and her siblings, Clarence Draeger, Clifford Draeger, Alwayne (Darlene) Draeger, Delores (Clair) McBeth, Rose (Dennis) Werner, and Phyllis (Larry) Spear.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Herman, her parents Paul and Myrtle Draeger and her sister Ardella Syverson. She will be missed by her family and friends.
