Bernice Evelyn Lubitz, born on November 15, 1929, in Perham, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026, at Like Mother Like Daughter Assisted Living in Perham, Minnesota. She was the cherished daughter of Henry and Clara (Quittschreiber) Zepper.
Bernice was baptized on December 15, 1929, and confirmed on June 13, 1943, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Corliss Township, Perham. Her faith remained a cornerstone of her life. As a child, Bernice and her brother Arlo demonstrated remarkable resilience when they survived the Armistice Day Blizzard by walking hand in hand a mile and a half home through a blinding snowstorm.
On their shared birthday at a dance, Bernice met the love of her life, Elmer William Lubitz. The couple married on June 29, 1950, at St. John's Lutheran Church and made their home on the dairy farm that Elmer had purchased a year earlier. Together they were blessed with three children and shared a deep love for dancing, which they enjoyed throughout their lives.
A devoted member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Bernice was active in the Circle Bible Study group and taught Vacation Bible School. Alongside Elmer, she lovingly maintained the church grounds for many years, offering her time and care to her community.
Bernice will be remembered for her patience, strength of will, and contented nature. She was a great listener who took time for friends and family alike. She found joy in the simple comforts of home and family.
Bernice is preceded in death by her parents; husband Elmer, and great-grandchild Keston Fritz.
Bernice will be lovingly remembered by her children: David (Vicki) Lubitz, Janelle (Leo) Fritz, and Dean (Ann) Lubitz; grandchildren: Brenda (Ross) Genoch, Korey (Tera) Fritz, Paul Lubitz, Kody Fritz, Allen (Krista) Lubitz, and Kellie Jo (Scott) Lonnemen; great-grandchildren: Samantha, Easton, Kolton, Reid, and Elliot; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
May Bernice’s memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
