Alice was born 31 December 1918 to William and Rose (Herman) Grose in Niagara, ND where she lived until her family moved to Parkers Prairie, Minnesota in 1921. She was about 2 years old. As a teenager (13 years old) she and her family moved to Almora, Minnesota. Alice completed the 8th year of education but was not able to attend high school because of living in an area not serviced by school buses and was too far from town to walk. (Alice did receive a High School diploma, at age 100, from Parker’s Prairie High School.) One year later her family moved back to Parkers Prairie after her father passed away. During her early years she worked as a Nanny for a couple in the area doing the cooking, the housework, and whatever else they needed.
In 1938 she married Frank Peach who lived and farmed near Henning, Minnesota. They moved to a farm East of New York Mills, Minnesota in 1941 where they farmed until 1975 when Frank became ill from cancer. A move to a residence just east of New York Mills was next. Alice then worked as head cook at the New York Mills Elder’s home and hospital. She then worked at the Senior Center for a time before retirement after Frank passed away in 1978. She was also a librarian in New York Mills.
Despite working very hard for many years, she was still very active taking up cross-country skiing. It was at this time that she met and married Walter Schultz who was living near Rush Lake. They then purchased a home on the shores of Rush lake, living there for several years before moving to Bertha, Minnesota. During these years they traveled to Arizona and California during the winter. Their next residence was in Clitherall, Minnesota where they lived until 1997 while continuing to travel to Arizona. Alice lived in Henning for a time, and then moved to New York Mills living at Kaleva and Heritage Apartments.
In 2013, she moved to Home Sweet Home, an assisted-living facility in New York Mills. She moved to Perham Living, after Home Sweet Home closed in November of 2018. During the last ten years of her life Alice creatively colored many pictures. They were always displayed in her room and she would give them away to anyone who would take one. Many of them contained Bible verses. This was another of her ministries!
She was very adept at remembering people, especially families that she taught in Sunday School, baby sat for or came to visit her, and was able to list all their kids, and even grandkids of these families. Many of the nurses that cared for her became close friends.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Frank Peach; sons: James (Kathy); and infant son Jerold; daughter-in-law: Kathy; and siblings: Mildred Fridgen; George Grose; Elmer Grose; and Doris Olson.
She is survived by her son David (Mellie) Peach of Perham; grandchildren: Brendon (Kristi) Peach; Kyla (Jeff) Tyler; Jacki (Boris) Hallerbach; Dawn (Ari) Sloan; and Tim Peach; great-grandchildren: Jasmine Peach; Tyler Peach; AveryAnn Peach; Anni Hallerbach; Kira Hallerbach; Colton Tyler; Fischer Peach; Cody Peach; Evie Sloan; Zachary Tyler; and Payton Peach; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
