Albert Huwe Obituary

I was born on January 9, 1931 in Perham, Minnesota.  Since I was born on my Dad’s birthday, that’s how I got my name Albert “Junior” Huwe.   I was the youngest of nine children, born to the late Albert Ferdinand and Emma (Janke) Huwe.  I was baptized on January 16, 1931 and confirmed on June 11, 1944 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Corliss Township. I grew up on a farm in Butler Township and went to Country School through the 8th grade and went on to Perham High School for a year. I finally received my Honorary Diploma in 2015.

I enlisted in the United States Army on March 9, 1954, taking my training at Camp Gordon, Georgia and was stationed in Germany at the 7th Army Headquarters.  For 18 months I handled secret service information by teletype and cryptography.  I was discharged from the Army on February 23, 1956 and came home and bought the farmstead.

I met my wife at a roller-skating party at the New York Mills City Hall.  I tried to teach her how to skate, but a small miracle would have had to happen.  On September 22, 1956 I married Violet Lubitz at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Corliss Township.  Our marriage was blessed with 5 children: Twyla, Greg, Tammy, Treva and Tracy.  One of our most difficult times we had was on March 2 ,1962, when our house burnt.  With 3 small children and 1 on the way, it was a real challenge, but with God’s help we made it.

I served as vice chairman on the New York Mills School Board, Commander of the Charles D. Center V.F.W. Post #3289 for 5 years, a director of Mutual Insurance in Flom for 9 years and proudly worked on every committee at St. John’s Lutheran Church for 38 years.  I really enjoyed farming and spending time with my children, grandchildren and their families.  My love for baseball allowed me to play for many teams for over 20 years, even when I was in the Army in Germany.

On January 12, 2020 I passed away peacefully with the love of my family and the gentle care of the staff at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, I was 89 years old.   I know my family and friends will miss me.  I miss them too, but this is not a goodbye, it’s “See you at the card table”.  We will all meet again in Heaven.  My parents, Albert and Emma Huwe have passed away long ago.  Most of my siblings and their spouse have died too: Raymond (Anne) Huwe, Thelma (Kerney) Dickson, Helen (Marvin) Anhorn, Leona (Edwin) Matz, Kenneth (Lois) Huwe, Arnold (Eleanor) Huwe and Norman Huwe; sister-in-law, Margaret Huwe.

I am survived by my loving wife of 63 years, Violet Huwe of New York Mills; my children and their spouses:  Twyla (Jerry) Haase of Bertha; Greg (Cindy) Huwe of New York Mills; Tammy (Roy) Bell of Staples; Treva (John) Mayfield of Perham; Tracy (Leo) Weller of New York Mills;  8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren: Jackson & Henley; my brother, Eldor Huwe and my sister-in-law, Jeanette Huwe and many other relatives and a host of friends.
