Marcella Bendickson Obituary

Marcella Bendickson, age 81, of Henning, Minnesota passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at her home in Henning, surrounded by her loving family.

Marcella Junice Torgerson was born on June 26, 1937 on a farm west of Henning to her parents, Johny and Mabel (Benson) Torgerson in Girard township. She graduated from Henning High School Class of 1954, ad it was there she met her husband-to-be, Gary Bendickson. They were married September 18, 1954 in Battle Lake, MN and resided on East Battle Lake.

Marcella worked at the Ottertail County Courthourse for two years, from there they went on an adventure to California where she worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad in San Francisco for three years. She missed her family back home and the place where they grew up, so they headed back to Henning.

Once returning home, Marcella played piano and Gary played trumpet in her father-in-law’s dance band, Marlin Bendickson Orchestra. They then moved to St. Paul and worked for Mutual Service Insurance, The Arsenol and Consolidated Freightways. They lived in Shoreview and on Maple Lane Drive where Gary built their first home and started a family. In 1960, they had their daughter Patty and in 1964 their second child David was born.

In 1972, they bought a farm close to where Marcella grew up and they would commute back and forth until she retired in 1999 and returned to the farm. Marcella had one grandson, Shane that she adored and loved with all her heart. They did many things together. They loved going on trips to Lake Superior together.

Marcella loved fishing, gardening, canning, baking, playing piano and watching old westerns. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marvel Torgerson; brother Maynard (Gertrude) Torgerson.

She is survived by her husband Gary of 64 years; daughter Patty (Paul) Winkler; son David (Julie Milier) Bendickson; grandson Shane (fiancé Rachel Ulven) Winkler; sister-in-law Kathy (Bendickson) Moore; nephews: Randy, Rick, Ron Torgerson and their families; Aaron Rousu and family; Adam Rousu.
