Jeanne Louise (Baker) Gerber was born in April 24, 1930 in Ogilvie, Minnesota. Her parents were the late Frank and Clara (Jungk) Baker. Jeanne graduated from the Ogilvie High School with the class of 1947. In August of 1948 Jeanne was united in marriage with Orville Melvin Gerber at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ogilvie, Minnesota. Jeanne and Orv made their home in Minneapolis where she was employed as a bank teller at Midland National Bank. In 1956, they moved to Mora, MN where she was employed at the Kanabec County Courthouse and worked with a local accountant. After a short move to Ogilvie, Jeanne continued to work at the Courthouse and operated a ceramic shop out the basement of their home.
In June of 1984 Jeanne and Orv purchased the Eagles Café in New York Mills. Together, they operated the cafe for 17 years. On November 28, 2001, Orv passed away as they were transitioning the sale of the cafe. In 2006 her son Tom, and his wife Julie, purchased Eagles Café again, and Jeanne worked for/with them for a number of years. On October 4, 2019, Jeanne passed away at Prairie Knoll, Perham Living, in Perham, MN with the gentle care of hospice at 89 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, Frank and Clara Baker; husband, Orville Gerber; siblings: Robert, Francis and Olive.
Jeanne enjoyed her ceramic business, gardening and, together with Orv, they loved taking their family on a yearly vacation to Farm Island Lake. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and Charles D. Center V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #3289 in New York Mills.
