Gary Newborg

Gary Allen Newborg was born on November 15, 1945 in Mount Vernon, Washington. His parents were the late Reuben and Alice (Kalling) Newborg.  Gary grew up helping all the farmers around New York Mills.

Gary was united in marriage to Nancy Gunkel on April 15, 1972 at the United Methodist Church in Ottertail, MN. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Heidi, Jennifer and Joseph.

They moved to South St. Paul, MN where Gary was employed with John Morrell Meat Company in St. Paul for thirteen years.

In 1980 they returned to New York Mills where Gary was employed with Lund Boats for 30 years and farmed the family farm. He was a proud member of the Turkey Federation and the Ottertail Rod and Gun Club for many years.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching all of his birds.  Gary was always there for family and friends to lend a helping hand. He loved his time with his family and friends, and best of all he loved having all of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren home to run up and down the hills.

On August 22, 2019 Gary passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family at 73 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.  Preceding Gary in death were his parents, Reuben and Alice Newborg; brother, Charles Newborg and his father and mother-in-law, Wayne and Mattie Gunkel.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Nancy of New York Mills; daughters: Hiedi (Dennis) Lien of Fergus Falls; Jennifer (Justin Wagner) Newborg of Ottertail; and son, Joseph Newborg of New York Mills; grandchildren: Dustin, Ashley, Presten and Jaida; great-grandchildren: Carter, Hadlie, Aubree, Isaiah and Greyson; brother, Reuben (Polly) Newborg of Baldwin, WI; and sister, Gay (Bob) Borgen; many other relatives and a host of friends.
