Biography

Alton Hubert Nordgren was born on May 26, 1927 in Starbuck, Minnesota the son of Herman and Nora (Nygaard) Nordgren. Hub was baptized and confirmed at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. He graduated from Starbuck High School in 1944 and immediately entered the United States Merchant Marines to serve in WWII. On September 7, 1948 he was married to Dorothy Molander at Norunga Lutheran Church in Lowry, Minnesota. Worked for Nodland Construction and was a policeman for the cities of Kensington and Starbuck. He became the proud father of two girls Carol and Sally. In 1960 the family moved to Henning, MN where they owned and operated Henning Lanes for eighteen years. Hub also drove school bus for a total of 36 years. He was elected Otter Tail County Commissioner in 1970 and held that position for 20 years. Hub was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Henning. As a player and as a spectator, athletics played a constant role in Hubís life. He coached Little League baseball in Henning and was an avid fan of Henning athletics. He also greatly enjoyed his fantasy football league in his later years and especially appreciated the concern and loyalty of its members during the last weeks. Hub was a charter member of the Henning Lions Club. He also was instrumental in starting 4-H Field Day in Henning. With family as Hubís number one priority, his grandchildren became the pride of his life. He enjoyed attending their sporting and musical events, and he had the habit of boasting about their successes to most everyone he visited with. Hub will always be remembered for his stories, each reflecting his deep love for friends and family and his appreciation for the wonderful moments he shard with all of them. Hub cherished his uncountable friends and loved their visits even when he wasnít feeling well the last weeks.

Hub is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy; his daughters: Carol (Bob) Bjorklund, Shoreview, MN, and Sally (Steve) Brutlag, Carlsbad, CA; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a cousin: James Erickson; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a son who died in infancy; and a brother: Kenneth Nordgren.
