Obituary for Ruth Gunderson

Ruth Caroline Speten was born at her parent’s home on August 9, 1926, and spent her childhood years in Clitherall, MN; during that time she was baptized at home and confirmed as an adult in 1947 by Pastor Owen Doley. She worked as a waitress in Henning, Battle Lake, Minneapolis, and Los Angeles. She enjoyed 39 years of employment at the Golden Living Center in Henning.

Ruth was united in marriage to Truman Gunderson in 1947 and spent many years dairy farming in Folden Township. Their marriage was blessed with two children; Steven and Cheryl. As a member of the Folden Church, Ruth enjoyed helping in all capacities for 65 years; she was also a longtime member of the Henning Senior Center. During their years together, Ruth and Truman loved to travel. They took many memorable trips to Seattle, Los Angeles, and to the east coast.

In 2006 Truman died, but Ruth remained on the farm for seven years. Ruth moved back to her home town of Henning in 2013 where she enjoyed her flower garden, visiting with friends, playing bingo and cards. Ruth doted on her two great-granddaughters; Avery Ruth and Annabel. Ruth also loved to babysit her granddaughters when they were young.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Steven (Marlene) Gunderson of Vining; Cheryl (Mike) Ranum of Henning; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Alice Haile; many other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by her special brother, Orris; sisters Ethel Barker, Hazel Anderson, and Myrtle Fletcher; sister-in-law, Crystal Anderson.
