Obituary for Jim Hermanson

James LeRoy "Jim" Hermanson was born on August 10, 1949, in Wadena, Minnesota to Betty Mae (Fiskum) and the late Roy Norman Hermanson. Jim was baptized at Folden Lutheran Church in Folden Township on September 18, 1949, and confirmed at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on May 17, 1964.

Jim graduated from Henning High School with the class of 1967. In 1971, he graduated from Moorhead State University with a degree in Distributive Education. Jim honorably served in the Army National Guard from 1971 to 1977.

On July 27, 1974, Jim was united in marriage with Diane Carol Bratlie at First Lutheran Church in Audubon, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with two sons: Jesse Scott Hermanson in 1983 and Randy James Hermanson in 1985. Jim and Diane made their home in Henning.

Jim was briefly employed with his father at the local Ag Service until taking a job in the Starbuck/Glenwood area for a couple of years. From 1974 to 2000, Jim was an Agronomy Sales Representative with Cenex-Land O’ Lakes. Later he worked as a media van driver with Lakes Country Service Co-op in Fergus Falls, beginning in 2001 and retiring in 2009.

As a proud and active member of the community, Jim served on several boards and committees. He was a member of the Henning City Council since 1976, and served as the town's mayor since 2007. He was active at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, a member of the local EDA council, had been a member of the Henning Lions club, and many other organizations that would benefit the City of Henning.

He enjoyed attending local events and socializing with friends. Jim enjoyed his hobby farm, bowling, golfing, snowmobiling and going to parades. Jim was an avid sports fan as he enjoyed attending local high school events, watching college and professional sports, especially the Minnesota Vikings. He also enjoyed the camaraderie and competition of his local fantasy football league.

On November 3, 2017, Jim passed away unexpectedly at the Tri-County Hospital in Wadena, Minnesota at 68 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding Jim in death were his father, Roy Hermanson, his brother Bob Hermanson, and his in-laws, Olaf and Dorothy Bratlie.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Diane Hermanson; sons: Jesse Hermanson and Randy (Margo Munsterman) Hermanson; mother, Betty Hermanson; special canine companion Ziggy; sister-in-law Cindy Hermanson; brother-in-law Duane Bratlie, and his wife Alison; niece, Amy (Beau) Wohlwend and family; nephews: Jake (Sheila) Hermanson and family, and Dane Bratlie; many other relatives and a host of friends.
